The Federal Ministry of Education is accepting applications for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Award Scholarship for Nigerian undergraduate and postgraduate students studying within Nigeria.
The scholarship is administered through the Federal Scholarship Board, and applications are currently listed on the Ministry’s new scholarship portal.
Application deadline: 30 August 2026.
How much is the scholarship?
Following the Federal Government’s recent review of scholarship grants, the annual award amounts are now:

The previous amounts were increased by 50 per cent as part of the Federal Government’s restructuring of its scholarship programmes.
Who can apply?
The Nigeria Award Scholarship is intended for qualified Nigerian students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies within Nigeria. Applicants should be enrolled in an eligible programme and institution and must satisfy the requirements shown on the Federal Ministry of Education scholarship portal.
The wider scholarship reform gives priority to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM). Under the new allocation structure, 70 per cent of awards within each level are prioritised for STEMM disciplines, while 30 per cent support Social Sciences. Five per cent of the scholarships are reserved for students with disabilities.
The Federal Government has also introduced separate funding categories for students in public polytechnics studying STEM and vocational courses, and students studying Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy.

your institution and course details are correct;
your academic information is accurate;
all required documents are clear and readable; and
you have submitted the application before 30 August 2026.

Why the 2025/2026 award is different
The Federal Government says the current scholarship restructuring is intended to benefit more than 15,000 students across the Nigerian Scholarship Award, Education Bursary Award and related programmes.
Under the revised allocation formula:
50% of awards go to undergraduate students;
25% to Master’s students;
25% to PhD students;
70% within each category prioritises STEMM; and
5% of scholarships are reserved for students with disabilities.
Applicants should, however, understand that meeting the basic requirements does not automatically guarantee selection.
