Applicants are asked in the application form to indicate when they would or would not be available for such a meeting.<h2>What does the full Ashinaga scholarship cover?</h2>The Ashinaga Africa Initiative describes its financial support as covering:<ul><li>tuition fees;</li><li>accommodation;</li><li>travel costs; and</li><li>other necessary study-related expenses.</li></ul>However, the current 2027 Francophone application materials do not publish a fixed monthly stipend amount or a detailed monetary value for every benefit.<h2>Who can apply for the 2027 Francophone programme?</h2>According to the live 2027 application, applicants must meet a fairly strict set of conditions.They must:<ul><li>have lost their father, mother or both parents;</li><li>be a citizen of an eligible Francophone African country;</li><li>have obtained their Bachelor's degree in 2026, or be due to complete it no later than June 2027;</li><li>have been born after 1 September 2001;</li><li>lack the financial means to pursue a Master's degree in France;</li><li>be fluent in French;</li><li>have scored above 14/20 in the Baccalauréat or above 75% in the State Examination;</li><li>have achieved excellent grades during their Bachelor's programme;</li><li>be able to participate in regular online Orientation Programme sessions between September 2026 and June 2027;</li><li>have access to a computer and stable internet connection;</li><li>be committed to returning to their home country or elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa after graduation;</li><li>have no dependants who would interfere with their studies; and</li><li>be healthy enough to study internationally.</li></ul>There are no exceptions to the eligibility criteria, according to Ashinaga's official FAQ.<h2>Eligible countries</h2>The live 2027 application currently lists applicants from:Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Francophone Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Seychelles, Chad and Togo.<h2>What Master's subjects can you study?</h2>This is another important area where applicants need to be careful.The 2027 application states that Ashinaga does not support Master's study in health-related fields, including:<ul><li>Medicine;</li><li>Pharmacy;</li><li>Dentistry/Odontology;</li><li>Veterinary Sciences;</li><li>Public Health;</li><li>Biomedicine; and</li><li>related health disciplines.</li></ul>Candidates who previously studied in one of these areas may still be considered if they intend to switch to an eligible Master's discipline, such as Engineering or another supported field.<h2>Do you need to already have admission to a French university?</h2>No.You do not need an existing French university admission before applying.Ashinaga helps successful Orientation Programme participants develop their study plans and prepare university applications.The eventual university is discussed with the student during the Ashinaga Study Camp, but Ashinaga retains the final decision on university placement based on factors such as:<ul><li>academic performance;</li><li>suitability of the programme;</li><li>availability of the desired course; and</li><li>the student's long-term objectives.</li></ul><h2>What if you already have admission in France?</h2>You may still be able to apply.Ashinaga states that a candidate who already has an admission offer from a French university may apply where the university provides a tuition-fee exemption.The current application also asks candidates whether they have:<ul><li>previously applied to universities in France;</li><li>applied through Campus France;</li><li>already obtained a French university admission offer; or</li><li>applied for or received another scholarship.</li></ul>Applicants should answer these questions truthfully.<h2>Required documents</h2>Applicants should prepare the following before starting:<ol><li>A passport-sized photograph.</li><li>A copy of a passport or national identity card.</li><li>Birth certificate or official birth extract.</li><li>Proof that one or both parents are deceased or missing.</li><li>Baccalauréat certificate or other proof of secondary-school completion.</li><li>Detailed secondary-school examination transcript.</li><li>Proof of current university enrolment.</li><li>All available university transcripts.</li><li>Optional certificates covering extracurricular activities, training, employment, volunteering or other engagements.</li></ol>Ashinaga accepts alternatives where an applicant does not possess a conventional death certificate. Three reference letters</h3>Applicants must provide three separate reference letters.The Foundation requires the letters to be written on authentic letterhead paper, and each referee must be contactable by email.Applicants should therefore choose referees who know them well enough to speak meaningfully about their character, academic ability, leadership, community involvement or personal circumstances.<h2>The 2026 scholarship essay question</h2>A particularly important part of this year's application is the essay.Applicants are being asked to discuss how artificial intelligence is affecting—or is likely to affect—their particular field of study and what they are personally doing to remain relevant in that changing environment.The essay must be 600–750 words.This is not supposed to be a general essay about the advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence.The Foundation says strong answers should demonstrate:<ul><li>knowledge of how AI applies specifically to the applicant's discipline;</li><li>real examples of changes already occurring in that profession;</li><li>credible predictions about future changes;</li><li>what the applicant is personally learning or doing in response;</li><li>intellectual honesty about both opportunities and limitations; and</li><li>original thought.</li></ul><h3>Example of the difference</h3>A Computer Science student should not simply write:<blockquote>“Artificial intelligence is changing the world and making jobs easier.”</blockquote>Instead, the student could discuss areas such as generative AI, automated programming assistants, machine learning, cybersecurity, software testing or data analysis, and then explain the technical and human skills they are developing.Similarly:<ul><li>a Medicine or Nursing student could examine AI-assisted diagnosis, clinical decision support and patient-data ethics;</li><li>an Accounting student could discuss automated bookkeeping, fraud detection and financial analytics;</li><li>a Law student could examine legal research, document review, AI regulation and professional ethics;</li><li>an Engineering student could discuss predictive maintenance, digital twins, automation or AI-assisted design;</li><li>an Education student could discuss adaptive learning, automated assessment, lesson preparation and the changing role of teachers.</li></ul>The key is to make the essay unmistakably connected to your own course and future profession.<h2>Important warning about using AI for the essay</h2>There is an interesting irony in this year's essay topic.Although applicants are writing about artificial intelligence, the Foundation specifically warns against submitting content that appears to have been generated by AI.It says its reviewers are trained to identify such responses and that generic, polished answers without genuine personal thinking will score poorly.Applicants may research their field, but the final essay should reflect their own experiences, thinking, vocabulary and career plans.The Foundation says it values clarity and authenticity more than perfect writing.<h2>Financial need is important</h2>This is not an academic-merit-only scholarship.Applicants must demonstrate genuine financial need.The initial application page does not specify one universal income threshold. <h2 style="text-align: left;">Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship 2026/2027 </h2>Applications are currently open for the Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship 2026/2027 for international students and doctoral candidates who want to pursue a Master's degree or PhD in Germany.The current Fall 2026 application period opened on 15 July 2026 and closes on 1 September 2026. A further application period is scheduled from 15 January to 1 March 2027.The scholarship is particularly relevant to applicants from developing countries. The Foundation gives priority to international applicants from countries on the OECD-DAC list who have completed their previous degree abroad and have not yet taken up residence in Germany. These include democracy, human rights, ecology, sustainability, gender equality, anti-discrimination and socio-ecological transformation.<h2>The German-language requirement is important</h2>This is one of the most important requirements for international applicants.Applicants need at least B2-level German proficiency and must provide documentary proof of their German ability. The Foundation's application materials also refer to recognised DSH qualifications.The German requirement still applies even if your chosen Master's or PhD programme is taught entirely in English.The Foundation explains that scholars are expected to participate in its activities and that the final selection interview is generally conducted in German.Applicants who have no German-language qualification should therefore take this requirement seriously before beginning an application.<h2>Do you need a particular GPA?</h2>There is no fixed minimum GPA stated by the Foundation.However, applicants are expected to have a very good academic record. There are three Rhodes Scholarships available annually for West Africa. Applications are open for the Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa 2027, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship for study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
The West Africa constituency offers three Rhodes Scholarships each year to eligible applicants from countries including Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Senegal and other West African countries. Successful candidates selected in 2026 will begin their studies at Oxford in October 2027.

The Rhodes Scholarship covers:

an annual living stipend;

The current published stipend for 2025/2026 is £20,400 per year, or £1,700 per month. The amount for scholars beginning in 2027 may be adjusted. 
<h2 data-end="2044" data-section-id="wq0ubv" data-start="2010">Eligible West African countries</h2>
Applicants must be citizens of one of the following:
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, São Tomé and Principe, Togo, or the listed British South Atlantic territories.
Applicants must also have lived in one or more of the eligible countries for at least five of the last ten years. 
<h2 data-end="2516" data-section-id="3i0ayn" data-start="2493">Academic requirement</h2>
Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree by the scholarship deadline and normally need a First Class Honours degree or equivalent.
Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy applicants are assessed according to the highest classification available in their university system. 
<h2 data-end="2860" data-section-id="p6lkrd" data-start="2842">Age requirement</h2>
Applicants must generally be 18–24 years old on 1 October 2026.
An upper age limit of 25 applies to some Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law and Engineering candidates completing professional internships.
There is also an alternative provision for some applicants under 27 who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual. Applicants should use the official eligibility checker rather than assuming they qualify based on age alone.

At least three referees should normally be academic referees, while at least one should be able to comment on the applicant's character, leadership and service.

Applicants should apply for the Rhodes Scholarship first, before submitting an application for their intended Oxford graduate course.
Successful Rhodes candidates are subsequently supported in applying to the University of Oxford. There is no application fee for the Rhodes Scholarship application itself.

Applicants should contact their referees early. The scholarship application closes on 27 August, but referees have until 3 September 2026 to submit their recommendations.

Applications are open for the 2027 McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
The scholarship supports outstanding students undertaking eligible full-time Master’s or second-entry professional programmes beginning in Summer or Fall 2027. Up to 30 full scholarships will be awarded, including ten for international students.

This deadline applies mainly to students and graduates of universities outside Canada and the United States. Students and graduates of universities in Canada or the United States, as well as Canadians studying abroad, have until 23 September 2026.

The McCall MacBain Scholarship covers:

full tuition and compulsory fees for the normal duration of the programme;

a one-time relocation grant for moving to Montreal;
</li>

mentorship, coaching and leadership training; and

up to $5,000 for an approved summer initiative when the scholar is not enrolled for an academic term.

International candidates who reach the final selection stage but do not receive the full scholarship may also be considered for finalist or regional awards.

Applicants of any nationality may apply. To qualify for the 2027 cohort, an applicant must meet at least one of the following conditions:

be on track to complete a first Bachelor’s degree by August 2027;

have completed a first Bachelor’s degree before January 2021 and have been 30 years old or younger on 1 January 2026.

The scholarship recognises international students with exceptional academic achievement, creativity, leadership potential and a record of contributing positively to their schools and communities. Approximately 37 students are selected each year. 
<h2 data-end="926" data-section-id="mb1w8b" data-start="903">Scholarship benefits</h2>
The Lester B. Pearson Scholarship covers:
<ul data-end="1075" data-start="971">
<li data-end="991" data-section-id="1ml91lt" data-start="971">
full tuition fees;
</li>
<li data-end="1000" data-section-id="1c4vdgp" data-start="992">
books;
</li>
<li data-end="1034" data-section-id="112r79u" data-start="1001">
incidental university fees; and
</li>
<li data-end="1075" data-section-id="1syq053" data-start="1035">
full residence support for four years.
</li>
</ul>
The scholarship is available only for first-entry undergraduate programmes at the University of Toronto. It does not normally cover travel, visa fees, relocation expenses or living costs during school holidays. 
<h2 data-end="1344" data-section-id="1iws62a" data-start="1327">Who can apply?</h2>
Applicants must:
<ul data-end="1673" data-start="1364">
<li data-end="1428" data-section-id="hrrcpr" data-start="1364">
be international students who require a Canadian study permit;
</li>
<li data-end="1535" data-section-id="jb84sq" data-start="1429">
be in their final year of secondary school during 2026/2027 or have graduated no earlier than June 2026;
</li>
<li data-end="1623" data-section-id="esuyxk" data-start="1536">
plan to begin undergraduate study at the University of Toronto in September 2027; and
</li>
<li data-end="1673" data-section-id="kz32m8" data-start="1624">
be nominated by their current secondary school.
</li>
</ul>
Students already attending a university or other post-secondary institution are not eligible. Students beginning post-secondary study in January 2027 are also ineligible.

Schools that have participated before receive their secure nomination form directly from the University. A school may nominate only one student per year. 
<h2 data-end="2311" data-section-id="13yzrei" data-start="2296">How to apply</h2>
The application involves three stages.
<h3 data-end="2386" data-section-id="tg2eh1" data-start="2353">1. Obtain a school nomination</h3>
Students cannot nominate themselves. Speak with your school counsellor, principal or head of school and request consideration for nomination.
Schools that have not previously participated must first register and be verified by the University of Toronto.

This form must be completed by authorised school personnel using an official school or government email address. The school-registration deadline is noon Eastern Time on 9 October 2026. Verification may take several weeks, so schools should register early. 
<h3 data-end="3095" data-section-id="r8xn4x" data-start="3055">2. Apply for undergraduate admission</h3>
The nominated student must apply to at least one University of Toronto undergraduate programme.

Applications begin through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. After applying, students receive access to the Join U of T applicant portal, where they can upload documents and complete any programme-specific requirements. 
Applicants may choose up to three programme areas. However, the Pearson Scholarship, when awarded, is restricted to the applicant’s first-choice programme at the time scholarship decisions are made. 
<h3 data-end="3955" data-section-id="1otvunv" data-start="3912">3. Complete the scholarship application</h3>
After the school nomination and undergraduate application have been received, the nominated student will receive a private Pearson Scholarship application link.
There is no public student application form. Only students officially nominated by their secondary schools receive access to the scholarship application.

<h2 data-end="4852" data-section-id="sv26cp" data-start="4832">Important warning</h2>
The University of Toronto does not use agents or recruitment agencies to nominate students or award the Pearson Scholarship. Applicants should not pay anyone who promises nomination, admission or scholarship selection. 
The University also prohibits using generative AI to create content for undergraduate award applications. Applicants found to have used AI-generated application content may be disqualified.
