Is RNV Still a Subject in Nigerian Schools? What Replaced Religion and National Values

What RNV means</h3>

<p data-end="4245" data-start="4006" style="text-align: left;"><strong data-end="4049" data-start="4006">RNV means Religion and National Values.</strong> It was a composite subject that brought together Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Studies, Social Studies, Civic Education and Security Education under Nigeria’s Basic Education Curriculum.</p>Under the revised curriculum being introduced from the 2025/2026 academic year, RNV is no longer listed as one composite subject. CRS and Islamic Studies are listed separately, while Nigerian History and Social and Citizenship Studies appear as distinct subjects.<h3 data-end="4535" data-section-id="17ral3i" data-start="4514">2. Subjects formerly contained in RNV</h3>

<p data-end="4957" data-start="4761" style="text-align: left;">Christian and Muslim pupils were not expected to study both religions. Schools were required to organise separate Christian Religious Studies and Islamic Studies classes according to the pupils’ religious backgrounds. </p>
<h3 data-end="4988" data-section-id="13px5m0" data-start="4959">3. Why RNV was introduced</h3>
RNV was introduced mainly to reduce subject overload by grouping related religion, citizenship, social and value-oriented subjects under one curriculum heading.<br /><p data-end="5113" data-start="4990" style="text-align: left;">
</p><p data-end="2260" data-start="2083" style="text-align: left;">The arrangement reduced the number of subjects appearing on school timetables, although the different components were still expected to be taught by suitably qualified teachers.</p>
<h3 data-end="5145" data-section-id="73mzz5" data-start="5115">4. Is RNV still a subject?</h3>
<p data-end="5613" data-start="5480" style="text-align: left;"><span data-end="5613" data-start="5480">No. RNV does not appear as a composite subject in the revised Basic Education Curriculum.</span> </p><p data-end="5613" data-start="5480" style="text-align: left;">Its former components have either been separated or reorganised. Religious education is now listed independently, while citizenship and social-learning content is taught through Social and Citizenship Studies.</p>
<p>Therefore, a school implementing the revised curriculum should no longer present Religion and National Values as one combined subject for the affected classes. </p>

<h3 data-end="6411" data-section-id="z8q8g2" data-start="6371">6. What the change means for schools</h3>
<p data-end="6446" data-start="6413">Implications of this changes includes:</p>

Türkiye Research Scholarship 2026 for International Researchers: 25,000 TL Monthly

<p>The <strong data-end="3854" data-start="3812">Türkiye Research Scholarship Programme</strong> supports international researchers and academics who wish to undertake research in cooperation with academics at universities in Türkiye.</p>
<p data-end="4215" data-start="3994">Applications are accepted throughout the year and assessed during four application periods. The current third period runs from <strong data-end="4142" data-start="4121">July to September</strong>, with results expected in October. <span class="" data-state="closed"></span></p>

University of Dundee Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship 2026/2027: £6,500 Tuition Award

<p>The University of Dundee Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship provides tuition-fee support to eligible students who are permanently resident in an African country.</p><p data-end="1499" data-start="1338">The scholarship is available to international undergraduate and postgraduate taught students beginning eligible programmes in <strong data-end="1498" data-start="1464">September 2026 or January 2027</strong>.</p><p data-end="1815" data-start="1501">Nigeria, The Gambia and many other African countries are included among the eligible locations. The scholarship is a tuition-fee waiver rather than a fully funded award, so applicants must make separate arrangements for accommodation, travel, visa charges and living expenses.<span data-state="closed"></span></p><h2 data-end="1837" data-section-id="x3ec84" data-start="1817">Scholarship value</h2><p data-end="1864" data-start="1839">The scholarship provides:</p><ul data-end="1957" data-start="1866"><li data-end="1910" data-section-id="1h189p5" data-start="1866"><strong data-end="1905" data-start="1868">£6,500 in the first year of study</strong>; and</li><li data-end="1957" data-section-id="dwlgsm" data-start="1911"><strong data-end="1956" data-start="1913">£4,000 in each eligible subsequent year</strong>.</li></ul><p data-end="2096" data-start="1959">An undergraduate student may receive the award for up to five years of progressing study, giving a possible maximum value of <strong data-end="2095" data-start="2084">£22,500</strong>.</p><p data-end="2333" data-start="2098">For a standard one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme, the normal scholarship value is £6,500. Longer eligible postgraduate programmes may receive £4,000 in another academic year where a full qualifying tuition fee is charged.</p><p data-end="2475" data-start="2335">The award is applied directly as a tuition-fee waiver.
