The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) continues to process and disburse student loans to eligible beneficiaries across the country. As of August 2026, the fund has disbursed a total of ₦322.69 billion to over 1.65 million students.
How the Disbursement Works
The student loan is split into two parts:
- Institutional Fees: Paid directly to your university, polytechnic, or college of education to cover tuition and approved institutional charges.
- Upkeep Allowance: Paid directly into the student’s personal bank account to support living expenses during the academic session.
How to Check Your Status
You do not need to visit a physical office to check your loan status. Follow these steps:
- Go to the official NELFUND website: https://nelf.gov.ng
- Click on the "Student Loan Portal" or "Login" button.
- Enter your registered email address or phone number and your password.
- Navigate to your dashboard. Here, you will see the status of your application, the amount approved, and whether the funds have been disbursed to your institution or your personal account.
Important Warnings for Students
- No "Processing Fees": NELFUND does not ask students to pay any money to "fast-track" or "release" their loans. Anyone asking for money is a scammer.
- Bank Verification: Ensure the bank account linked to your NELFUND profile is active and in your name. Upkeep allowances will fail if the account details are incorrect.
- Delays: If your dashboard shows "Disbursed" but your school or account has not been credited, allow a few working days for inter-bank processing. If the delay persists, use the official support channels on the NELFUND portal to raise a ticket.
