 Chevening Scholarship 2027/2028

Applications are now open for the 2027/2028 Chevening Scholarships, the UK Government’s international scholarship programme for emerging leaders from eligible countries.

The scholarship supports successful applicants to pursue a one-year taught Master’s degree at a UK university.

Application deadline: 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC

Successful applicants will begin their studies in the UK in September or October 2027.

Scholarship benefits

A full Chevening Scholarship normally includes:

  • payment of tuition fees;
  • economy travel to and from the UK;
  • an arrival allowance;
  • visa application costs;
  • a departure allowance;
  • a contribution towards TB testing where required;
  • a travel top-up allowance; and
  • a monthly living stipend for accommodation and other expenses.

The monthly stipend differs depending on whether the student studies inside or outside London.

Who can apply?

Applicants must generally:

  • be citizens of a Chevening-eligible country or territory;
  • agree to return to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship;
  • have at least 2,800 hours of work experience gained after completing their undergraduate degree;
  • hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for admission to a UK Master’s programme;
  • have completed their undergraduate studies at least two years before the application deadline; and
  • apply to three different eligible UK Master’s courses.

There is no upper age limit for Chevening Scholarship applicants.

Eligible courses

Chevening supports eligible courses that are:

  • based in the UK;
  • full-time;
  • taught Master’s programmes;
  • beginning in the autumn term; and
  • normally one year in duration.

Applicants must list three eligible course choices in their Chevening application.

The Chevening scholarship application is separate from the university application. Applicants must eventually apply directly to their chosen universities.

Application process

After opening the online application system, applicants will:

  1. register an email address and phone number;
  2. complete the eligibility checker;
  3. receive a unique application access code;
  4. enter their education and work history;
  5. select three eligible UK Master’s programmes;
  6. provide referee information; and
  7. submit the completed application before the deadline.

Applicants do not need to have already applied to their three universities before submitting the Chevening application.

Important dates

  • 4 August 2026: Applications opened

  • Mid-February 2027: Interview shortlist announced
  • March–April 2027: Interviews
  • Mid-June 2027: Results
  • 8 July 2027: Deadline to submit at least one unconditional university offer
  • September/October 2027: Studies begin in the UK.
