 McGill McCall MacBain Scholarship 2027

Applications are open for the 2027 McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

The scholarship supports outstanding students undertaking eligible full-time Master’s or second-entry professional programmes beginning in Summer or Fall 2027. Up to 30 full scholarships will be awarded, including ten for international students.

International application deadline: 19 August 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time

This deadline applies mainly to students and graduates of universities outside Canada and the United States. Students and graduates of universities in Canada or the United States, as well as Canadians studying abroad, have until 23 September 2026.

Scholarship benefits

The McCall MacBain Scholarship covers:

• full tuition and compulsory fees for the normal duration of the programme;
• a monthly living stipend of $2,300 during academic terms;
• a one-time relocation grant for moving to Montreal;
• mentorship, coaching and leadership training; and
• up to $5,000 for an approved summer initiative when the scholar is not enrolled for an academic term.

International candidates who reach the final selection stage but do not receive the full scholarship may also be considered for finalist or regional awards.

Who can apply?

Applicants of any nationality may apply. To qualify for the 2027 cohort, an applicant must meet at least one of the following conditions:

• be on track to complete a first Bachelor’s degree by August 2027;
• have completed a first Bachelor’s degree in January 2021 or later; or
• have completed a first Bachelor’s degree before January 2021 and have been 30 years old or younger on 1 January 2026.

Applicants must also meet the academic and language requirements of their intended McGill programme.

Eligible programmes

The scholarship is available for eligible full-time programmes of at least 45 credits offered mainly at McGill’s downtown or Macdonald campuses.

Eligible qualifications include:

• MA;
• MSc;
• MEng;
• MBA;
• MEd;
• MArch;
• LLM;
• MPP;
• MSW;
• MUP;
• MMus; and
• several other Master’s qualifications.

The BCL/JD in Law, DMD in Dentistry and MDCM in Medicine are also eligible second-entry professional programmes. PhD programmes, graduate certificates, part-time programmes, executive Master’s programmes and joint degrees are generally not covered.

Selection criteria

Candidates are assessed according to:

• exceptional character;
• community engagement;
• leadership potential;
• entrepreneurial spirit; and
• academic strength and intellectual curiosity.

The selection process considers what applicants have achieved, how they have served others and how their proposed studies connect with their future plans.

Documents and application requirements

The scholarship application includes:

• personal and academic information;
• details of employment and community activities;
• short answers and essays;
• a résumé;
• academic transcripts;
• one academic reference;
• one community reference; and
• university endorsement where required.

Both referees must complete their online reference forms before the application deadline. Applications without the two completed references are considered incomplete.

2. Complete the scholarship application

Applicants must complete all sections, upload their résumé and transcripts, provide their referees’ details and submit the application before the appropriate deadline.

International students who are current students or recent graduates may require endorsement from their university. The application portal will provide instructions based on the applicant’s institution and graduation year.

3. Apply separately to McGill University

The scholarship application is separate from admission to McGill University.

Applicants must later submit an admission application to an eligible McGill programme by its stated deadline. Scholarship finalists will be required to apply to McGill by December 2026, even where their programme has a later deadline.
