The University of Dundee Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship provides tuition-fee support to eligible students who are permanently resident in an African country.
The scholarship is available to international undergraduate and postgraduate taught students beginning eligible programmes in September 2026 or January 2027.
Nigeria, The Gambia and many other African countries are included among the eligible locations. The scholarship is a tuition-fee waiver rather than a fully funded award, so applicants must make separate arrangements for accommodation, travel, visa charges and living expenses.
Scholarship value
The scholarship provides:
- £6,500 in the first year of study; and
- £4,000 in each eligible subsequent year.
An undergraduate student may receive the award for up to five years of progressing study, giving a possible maximum value of £22,500.
For a standard one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme, the normal scholarship value is £6,500. Longer eligible postgraduate programmes may receive £4,000 in another academic year where a full qualifying tuition fee is charged.
The award is applied directly as a tuition-fee waiver. It is not normally paid to the student in cash.

Applicants should apply for admission well before the scholarship closing date because their course application and supporting documents must first be reviewed.
Undergraduate eligibility
An undergraduate applicant must:
- be permanently resident or domiciled in an eligible African country;
- hold an offer for an eligible University of Dundee undergraduate programme;
- study full-time and on campus;
- be classified as an international fee-paying student;
- begin the programme in September 2026 or January 2027; and
- apply for a programme with an annual tuition fee of at least £21,800.
Programmes in the School of Medicine and School of Dentistry are excluded.

Postgraduate eligibility
A postgraduate applicant must:
- be permanently resident or domiciled in an eligible African country;
- hold an offer for an eligible postgraduate taught programme;
- study full-time and on campus;
- be classified as an international fee-paying student;
- begin the programme in September 2026 or January 2027; and
- apply for a programme with tuition fees of at least £22,250.
The programme must lead to a Master’s degree. Research programmes such as PhD and MRes degrees are not eligible.

Eligible African countries
Nigeria and The Gambia are eligible for the scholarship, alongside countries such as Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

How to apply
There is no separate scholarship application form.
Applicants must first apply for an eligible University of Dundee course. The University Admissions Team will automatically assess scholarship eligibility using the information and supporting documents submitted with the course application.
Applicants should:
- choose an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate taught course;
- check its academic and English-language requirements;
- submit an application for admission;
- upload the required certificates, transcripts and supporting documents;
- state their permanent country of residence accurately; and
- monitor the University’s online applicant portal for a decision.
Most undergraduate applications are made through UCAS, while postgraduate applications are submitted through the University’s website. Applicants should follow the instructions on their selected course page.

Can the scholarship be combined with another award?
The Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship may be combined with the University’s Alumni Scholarship or Alumni and Family Scholarship, provided the total value of University of Dundee awards does not exceed 50% of the tuition fee.
It cannot be combined with the:
- Global Excellence Scholarship;
- Chevening Scholarship;
- Commonwealth Scholarship; or
- GREAT Scholarship.
Applicants who meet the academic criteria for the Global Excellence Scholarship before enrolment will normally receive Global Excellence instead of the Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship.
