Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027/2028: Fully Funded Postgraduate Study in the UK

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship offers full-cost funding to outstanding international students applying for eligible postgraduate programmes at the University of Cambridge.
Around 75 scholarships are awarded each year, with applicants selected on academic excellence, leadership potential, commitment to improving the lives of others, and strong reasons for choosing their proposed Cambridge course. Applicants must:

be citizens of a country outside the UK;
</li>

apply for an eligible postgraduate programme at Cambridge;

meet the academic requirements of their chosen course; and

There is no general age limit.
Eligible programmes include many PhD, MPhil and other postgraduate Master’s programmes. Some programmes, including the MBA and certain professional courses, are excluded.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a full-cost award and normally covers:

Gates applicants normally need an additional referee beyond the standard Cambridge references.
PhD applicants may also need to submit a research proposal, depending on their programme and application route. Choose the Gates referee carefully. The person should be able to comment on your leadership, character, commitment to others and suitability for the scholarship.

The international Gates Cambridge deadline is linked to the funding deadline of the applicant's chosen course.
Cambridge says the 2027 postgraduate application cycle will open in early September 2026. <h2 style="text-align: left;">Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship 2026/2027 </h2>Applications are currently open for the Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarship 2026/2027 for international students and doctoral candidates who want to pursue a Master's degree or PhD in Germany.The current Fall 2026 application period opened on 15 July 2026 and closes on 1 September 2026. A further application period is scheduled from 15 January to 1 March 2027.The scholarship is particularly relevant to applicants from developing countries. The Foundation gives priority to international applicants from countries on the OECD-DAC list who have completed their previous degree abroad and have not yet taken up residence in Germany. Nigeria and The Gambia are among the West African countries included on the DAC list currently referenced for development cooperation.<h2>Scholarship funding</h2>The amount depends partly on whether the recipient is an EU or non-EU international student.For non-EU international Master's students coming to Germany after obtaining their previous qualification abroad, the Foundation currently provides a basic scholarship of:€992 per monthIn addition, eligible scholars may receive:<ul><li>health insurance allowance of up to €100 per month;</li><li>possible reimbursement of tuition fees in Germany of up to €10,000 per year;</li><li>support for German-language course fees;</li><li>a fixed additional allowance of €38 per month; and</li><li>family and child allowances depending on individual circumstances.</li></ul>The scholarship is therefore not an automatic “full tuition scholarship”. Its core benefit is the monthly stipend, with several additional allowances available according to the scholar's circumstances.<h3>Funding for PhD students</h3>For international PhD candidates from outside the EU, the Foundation's current financial-support information lists a basic scholarship of:€1,500 per monthThe current funding table also provides a €100 monthly research/mobility allowance, with health-insurance support of up to €200 per month and possible additional family or child allowances.PhD funding normally covers about three years, with the possibility of an extension of up to six months under the applicable rules.<h2>Who can apply?</h2><h3>Master's applicants</h3>International applicants can apply if they:<ul><li>have already completed their first university degree outside Germany;</li><li>intend to undertake a Master's degree at a state or state-recognised university in Germany;</li><li>apply before beginning the Master's programme;</li><li>intend to study full-time; and</li><li>meet the Foundation's German-language requirement.</li></ul>The Foundation currently states that it funds Master's programmes with a standard duration of four semesters or more. Students from all academic disciplines may apply.Applicants do not necessarily have to wait until they have physically arrived in Germany. In fact, applicants from DAC countries who are still living in their home countries are specifically encouraged to apply.<h3>PhD applicants</h3>International PhD applicants must have completed their graduate degree abroad and intend to undertake their doctorate at a state or state-recognised university in Germany.They should already have:<ul><li>a completed university degree;</li><li>a clearly developed doctoral research project;</li><li>preliminary work on the proposed research;</li><li>a realistic research timetable; and</li><li>admission to doctoral study or appropriate confirmation from a prospective supervisor/university.</li></ul>PhD applications are accepted from all disciplines, although research connected with the Foundation's main areas of work receives particular interest. These include democracy, human rights, ecology, sustainability, gender equality, anti-discrimination and socio-ecological transformation.<h2>The German-language requirement is important</h2>This is one of the most important requirements for international applicants.Applicants need at least B2-level German proficiency and must provide documentary proof of their German ability. The Foundation's application materials also refer to recognised DSH qualifications.The German requirement still applies even if your chosen Master's or PhD programme is taught entirely in English.The Foundation explains that scholars are expected to participate in its activities and that the final selection interview is generally conducted in German.Applicants who have no German-language qualification should therefore take this requirement seriously before beginning an application.<h2>Do you need a particular GPA?</h2>There is no fixed minimum GPA stated by the Foundation.However, applicants are expected to have a very good academic record. Academic achievement is only one part of the selection process; the Foundation assesses applicants more broadly.The three major areas considered are:<ol><li>strong academic performance;</li><li>social or civic engagement and political interest; and</li><li>convincing motivation and alignment with the values of the Heinrich Böll Foundation.</li></ol>Excellent grades alone may therefore not be sufficient if the applicant has no evidence of involvement beyond academics.<h2>What counts as social or civic engagement?</h2>The Foundation is particularly interested in applicants who have taken responsibility in their communities or participated in activities connected with issues such as:<ul><li>education and youth development;</li><li>environmental protection and sustainability;</li><li>democracy and human rights;</li><li>gender equality;</li><li>social justice;</li><li>community development;</li><li>anti-discrimination;</li><li>public-interest initiatives; or</li><li>other meaningful voluntary or civic activities.</li></ul>Applicants do not have to be members of Germany's Green Party or any political party. The Foundation specifically confirms that party membership is not required.What matters is that the applicant can demonstrate genuine social responsibility, political awareness and an understanding of the Foundation's values.<h2>Master's application documents</h2>International Master's applicants should prepare the following:<ul><li>completed scholarship application form;</li><li>personal information and CV;</li><li>motivation for applying to the Heinrich Böll Foundation;</li><li>explanation of the proposed Master's subject and academic interests;</li><li>description of social engagement and political interests;</li><li>secondary-school/university entrance qualification;</li><li>first-degree certificate;</li><li>academic transcript;</li><li>certified German or English translations where necessary;</li><li>proof of German-language proficiency at B2 level or equivalent;</li><li>proof of enrolment or university admission;</li><li>one reference on social/civic engagement; and</li><li>one academic expert reference from a university lecturer.</li></ul>The social-engagement reference and academic reference must be written by different people.The enrolment or admission certificate can, in some circumstances, be submitted later, but it must be available no later than the final selection stage.<h2>PhD application documents</h2>PhD applicants have a more extensive application.Documents include:<ul><li>PhD scholarship application form;</li><li>CV and personal information;</li><li>motivation for applying;</li><li>details of social and political engagement;</li><li>university degree certificate;</li><li>proof of doctoral admission or appropriate supervisor confirmation;</li><li>German-language certificate;</li><li>detailed research proposal or exposé of up to 10 pages;</li><li>reference confirming social/civic engagement; and</li><li>two academic expert references concerning the doctoral project.</li></ul>The research exposé should explain the research question, current state of research, theoretical background, methodology, academic and social relevance, bibliography and proposed structure.It must also contain a research plan and timetable covering no more than 36 months.One of the two academic references must normally be written by the applicant's main PhD supervisor.<h2>Application language</h2>International applicants should note that the Foundation expects the application itself to be prepared largely in German.References, expert reports and certified translations can be submitted in English. For PhD applicants, the research exposé may also be written in English, but an abstract in German is required.This makes German proficiency important not just for eligibility but also for successfully completing the application and selection process.<h2>How candidates are selected</h2>The Heinrich Böll Foundation uses a three-stage selection procedure.<h3>Stage 1 — Written application</h3>The Scholarship Department reviews the complete application, academic performance, motivation, civic engagement and references.<h3>Stage 2 — Interview with an academic adviser</h3>Selected applicants proceed to an approximately one-hour interview with a Foundation liaison lecturer. This may take place in person or online.<h3>Stage 3 — Final selection interview</h3>Successful candidates then attend an online interview with a selection committee of around three to four members.Only applicants who successfully complete each stage move to the next one.For applications submitted by the 1 September 2026 deadline, Stage 2 is generally completed by mid-November, final interviews normally take place between December and February, and successful candidates are generally notified in January or February. Funding is expected to begin no later than 1 April.<h2>Is there an age limit?</h2>No general age limit is imposed on international graduate or PhD scholarship applicants.The Foundation says it also welcomes applicants who entered higher education through non-traditional routes or gained professional experience before going to university.<h2>Can you work while receiving the scholarship?</h2>The programme is generally not compatible with full-time employment.Applicants also cannot receive another scholarship covering the same purpose at the same time. Existing overlapping scholarship or BAföG funding must normally end before Heinrich Böll Foundation funding begins.Part-time Master's programmes are not eligible.<h2>Can undergraduate students apply?</h2>For international students educated outside Germany, the current open route is principally aimed at Master's and PhD applicants.An international applicant should therefore not assume that this particular 2026/2027 call provides a general Bachelor's scholarship simply because older pages or third-party scholarship websites describe Heinrich Böll funding as covering undergraduate study. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has published the 2027/2028 intake of its Development-Related Postgraduate Courses programme, commonly known as EPOS.
The programme supports graduates from developing and emerging countries who have at least two years of professional experience to undertake selected postgraduate or Master’s programmes in Germany. Doctoral study is supported in exceptional cases. 
Funding normally lasts between 12 and 42 months, depending on the programme.

DAAD currently lists:

The official 2027/28 list includes programmes in development economics, engineering, energy, urban planning, agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences, public health and other development-related disciplines.

The programme is open to applicants from all countries, with no quotas by nationality, academic discipline or region. Scholars may pursue eligible full-time graduate programmes across Stanford, including Master’s, PhD, MBA, JD and MD programmes. 
The KHS application closes on 6 October 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. 
<h3 data-end="6695" data-section-id="16y7mkx" data-start="6677">Who can apply?</h3>
For the 2027 cohort, applicants must normally have earned their first bachelor’s degree in January 2020 or later. Current students who will complete their degree by September 2027 can also qualify. Applicants with qualifying military service receive an additional two-year eligibility window.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars provides up to three years of support including:

Applications are open for the Schwarzman Scholars Class of 2027–2028, a fully funded one-year Master’s in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Applications are open for the Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa 2027, offering outstanding young people from eligible West African countries the opportunity to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.
There are three Rhodes Scholarships available annually for West Africa. Eligible countries include Nigeria, The Gambia, Ghana, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Benin, Burkina Faso and several other West African countries and territories. Applications opened on 1 June and close at 23:59 GMT on 27 August 2026. 
<h3 data-end="2370" data-section-id="1y09ff4" data-start="2334">What does the scholarship cover?</h3>
The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford course fees and provides a living stipend. Applicants must meet citizenship/residency, academic and age requirements. The main age route requires applicants to be 18–24 on 1 October 2026, with alternative provisions for some professional-degree and later-graduating candidates. A First Class Honours degree or equivalent is normally expected.

2026 WASSCE Results: How to Check Your WAEC Result and What to Do If It Is Withheld

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2026 WASSCE results for School Candidates, with 61.54% of candidates obtaining credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.A total of 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination, while 1,200,514 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. These figures were also announced by WAEC when the results were released on 5 August 2026.However, not every candidate has been able to access a complete result.WAEC says:<ul><li>1,834,695 candidates (94.05%) had their results fully processed and released;</li><li>116,031 candidates (5.95%) still had one or more subjects being processed; and</li><li>167,486 candidates (8.59%) had their results withheld in connection with reported cases of examination malpractice.</li></ul>The 167,486 withheld results are not the same as the 116,031 results still being processed.<h2>How to check your 2026 WAEC result</h2>Candidates can check their results through the official WAEC Direct Result Checker.Check your result here: <a href="https://www.waecdirect.org/">https://www.waecdirect.org/</a>WAEC Direct requires candidates to provide:<ol><li>their 10-digit WAEC examination number;</li><li>examination year — 2026;</li><li>examination type;</li><li>e-PIN voucher number; and</li><li>result-checker PIN.</li></ol>WAEC announced that candidates can obtain the necessary PIN through its official website and then use WAEC Direct to access their results.<h2>What does “result withheld” mean?</h2>A withheld result means WAEC has linked the candidate or examination centre to a reported examination-malpractice case that requires further consideration.It does not automatically mean that the candidate's result has already been permanently cancelled.WAEC has created an official portal where affected candidates can check the reason given for withholding their results and, where applicable, submit a representation for the Council's consideration.<h2>What to do if your WAEC result is withheld</h2>Do not pay anyone who claims that they can “release”, “upgrade” or change a withheld WAEC result.Instead, use the official WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal:Check a withheld result / submit a representation: <a href="https://waecinternational.org/complaints">https://waecinternational.org/complaints</a>Enter your 2026 WASSCE examination number to check whether WAEC has placed a malpractice notice against your result.WAEC also provides a separate section of the portal for school principals or representatives whose candidates' results have been withheld.<h2>Check the portal again after four weeks</h2>WAEC specifically advises candidates with examination-malpractice notices to check the complaints portal again four weeks after the release of the results for updates and information concerning their representation.Since the 2026 results were released on 5 August 2026, affected candidates should continue monitoring the official portal rather than relying on information circulating on WhatsApp or social media.<h2>What if your result says it is still being processed?</h2>This is different from a withheld result.WAEC reported that the results of 116,031 candidates, representing about 5.95% of those who sat for the examination, still had one or more subjects being processed when the results were released.Candidates in this category should continue checking the official result portal for updates.A result that is still being processed should not automatically be treated as a malpractice case.<h2>What about candidates whose states owe WAEC?</h2>There is another separate category.WAEC said results of candidates sponsored by states indebted to the Council would not be released until the outstanding debts were settled. The Council did not publicly name the affected states in its announcement.Therefore, an inaccessible result does not necessarily mean that the candidate has been accused of malpractice.<h2>2026 WASSCE performance at a glance</h2>Of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination:<ul><li>1,687,378 (86.50%) obtained at least five credits with or without English Language and Mathematics;</li><li>1,200,514 (61.54%) obtained at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics;</li><li>167,486 (8.59%) had results withheld over reported examination-malpractice cases; and</li><li>116,031 (5.95%) had one or more results still being processed.</li></ul>The proportion obtaining five credits including English and Mathematics was 1.42 percentage points lower than in 2025.<h2>Avoid WAEC result scams</h2>Candidates and parents should be particularly careful at this time.Nobody outside WAEC can legitimately:<ul><li>release a withheld result for payment;</li><li>change a candidate's grade;</li><li>remove a malpractice case;</li><li>“upgrade” a WAEC result; or</li><li>guarantee that a withheld result will eventually be released.</li></ul>Use only official WAEC portals and communications from your school.

Applicants should act immediately and confirm status before payment.</td></tr></tbody></table>This tracker will be updated as universities release new deadlines, screening results and admission lists.<h2>JAMB CAPS: what every candidate should do</h2>Getting a good Post-UTME score does not mean the admission process is finished.JAMB requires admissions to be processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). CAPS allows candidates to monitor their admission status and respond to provisional admission offers.Candidates should therefore:<ol><li>Ensure their O'Level result has been uploaded to JAMB.</li><li>Log in regularly to the JAMB e-Facility/CAPS.</li><li>Open Admission Status to see whether an offer has been made.</li><li>Accept or reject an admission offer when it appears.</li><li>Continue monitoring the university portal for acceptance-fee, clearance and registration instructions.</li></ol>Candidates using awaiting results must upload the final O'Level result before their institution processes their admission. JAMB's CAPS guidance specifically states that candidates with awaiting results must upload them before they can be considered for admission.<h2>What “Admission in Progress” means</h2>If CAPS displays Admission in Progress, it generally means the candidate's admission is still moving through the approval process.Do not panic and do not pay anyone who claims they can “upgrade” or release the admission.Continue checking CAPS and the institution's official admission portal.<h2>What if CAPS says “Not Admitted”?</h2>“Not Admitted” does not always mean the admission exercise is over.Institutions may process admissions in batches. A candidate who has not yet received an offer should continue checking until the institution announces that its admission exercise has ended.LASU, for example, is currently uploading its 2026/2027 admissions in batches.<h2>Don't forget your O'Level upload</h2>This is one of the easiest ways for an otherwise qualified candidate to lose an admission opportunity.UNILAG has specifically warned its 2026/2027 candidates that anyone who fails to upload an O'Level result to both JAMB CAPS and the UNILAG portal by 14 August 2026 will not be considered for admission.Federal University Lokoja similarly requires applicants to upload their O'Level results to JAMB before they can complete screening.<h2>Important official portals</h2>Candidates should use:<ul><li>the official JAMB e-Facility for admission-status and CAPS access;</li><li>the official JAMB CAPS information page for CAPS guidance;</li><li>and the official admission or Post-UTME portal of the institution they applied to.</li></ul>Avoid Post-UTME registration links sent by unknown social-media accounts. Confirm the web address from the university or polytechnic's main website before making payment.<h2>A note for candidates changing institution or course</h2>Some candidates may need to change institution or course where they no longer meet the cut-off mark or where their programme is unavailable.For example, FUOYE has announced that it will not admit candidates into Law for 2026/2027 and is advising affected applicants to move to other available programmes.JAMB provides an official Change of Course/Institution service through its portal.
