The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with key national examination bodies, has released proposed timelines for the 2027 Senior School Certificate Examinations.
Under the new schedule, the National Examinations Council (NECO) SSCE is scheduled to run from April 1 to May 14, 2027, while the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) WASSCE will take place from May 11 to June 18, 2027. Alongside the timetable, the government announced strict compliance standards, warning that schools failing to meet designated facility requirements will lose their status as approved examination centers.
Who is affected:
Senior secondary students (currently in SS2 moving to SS3) and their parents.
Secondary school principals, proprietors, and academic planners.
Examination invigilators and state education boards.
What it means: The adjusted exam windows mean secondary schools must recalibrate their academic calendars, complete syllabus coverage earlier, and ensure mock examinations do not clash with the new dates. Furthermore, schools with substandard facilities risk being delisted as official exam centers, requiring candidates to be moved to accredited public or private centers.
What you should do next:
For School Leaders: Review institutional infrastructure against WAEC and NECO center accreditation guidelines immediately.
For Parents and Students: Take note of the early second-term exam window and plan home study schedules accordingly.
