packed class rooms and lecture in Nigeria universities

This the picture that has sparked reactions from online visitors to Nairaland Forum - Nigeria's biggest online discussion forum. The above picture was allegedly taken at the "renowned" University of Jos (UJ) and it shows a packed lecture hall with several students sitting on the floor - at a university !!!

Surprisingly, not many commentator to the thread express shock or was surprise, some even think the topic (or caption the picture) is not worthy of a  discussion as such conditions are ubiquitous at all public institutions across the nation. Barely any Public institution is immune from such condition - its an age-long situation and a plague this institutions suffered.

So, could this truly be the conditions in many institutions as claimed ? Some commentator agreed citing their Alma mater as another example :

"this is even small come LAUTECH...U go see more than that" - Saxwizard

The commentator (Saxwizard) above boast that his university (LAUTECH) is even worse and the situation at UJ is relatively fair. Another commentator- Stinggy- strongly agree with Saxwizard saying;

"Very true! Can remember CHM 222 lecture in 1,200 LT. You wouldn't even have the space to snap this picture. Crazy school.."

 Other contributors tour the same line, Osahon7 believes UNIPORT is even worse.

"Go to MBA 1 in uniport...you never see anytin"

"This situation is not new..it's common in most state and federal univs. It's a pity tho."

Reminds me of workshop 3 in FUTO during my time.

Sooo true... When 8 departments in college had to stay in nslt1 for lectures. Mehnn..year 1 was crazy.

From available comments on the topic, lots of universities are fairly represented and their reactions mirror those of the above sample commentators - just unfortunate.
The nations' universities aren't just there yet.

How do we catch up with the rest of the world with institutions like this ?
