Nigeria's prestigious university, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has a new Vice Chancellor. Making the announcement at the end of its 162nd Special Council Meeting, on Saturday 21st of March, Arch. Mohammed Dewu, the Council Chairman, said, the Governing Council has appointed Professor Ibrahim Garba of Geology Department as the new Vice Chancellor of the university.
The Chairman described the four days screening, interview, and selection exercise that led to Prof. Garba's appointment as rigorous and transparent adding that the smooth conduct and outcome of the process is unprecedented in the recent history of transition in the university.
The new V.C who hail from Kano State, was born on 25th February, 1957 at Riruwai, Doguwa Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria. He had his first and second degrees at ABU and his PhD at University of London. He was at various times, Head of Geology Department, ABU and once served as the Vice Chancellor of Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil.
Professor Garba is expected to assume office on the 1st of May, 2015 replacing the incumbent V.C, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha.
