For Nigerian and other African applicants, the two main awards are the Global Excellence Scholarship and the Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship. These are partial tuition-fee awards and do not normally cover accommodation, travel, visa costs or living expenses.
Scholarships available
1.Global Excellence Scholarship
The Global Excellence Scholarship is awarded to international applicants with outstanding academic qualifications.
The scholarship is worth:
- £7,500 per eligible year for undergraduate students; and
- £8,000 per eligible year for postgraduate taught students.
Undergraduate applicants normally need AAB at A-Level or an equivalent qualification, while postgraduate taught applicants need a UK First-Class degree or its equivalent.

2.Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship
The Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship is available to eligible international applicants who are permanently resident or domiciled in an African country.
The award is worth:
- £6,500 in the entry year; and
- £4,000 in each eligible subsequent year.
An eligible undergraduate student may receive up to £22,500 over five years. A student undertaking a standard one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme will ordinarily receive £6,500.

The two scholarships cannot be received together. Applicants who meet the academic requirements for Global Excellence will normally be awarded that scholarship instead of the Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship.
Application deadlines
September 2026 entry
The deadline for both scholarships is:
Friday, 28 August 2026 at 11:59 p.m. UK time
Eligible programmes begin on 21 September 2026.
January 2027 entry
The published deadlines are:
- Global Excellence Undergraduate: 30 January 2027;
- Global Excellence Postgraduate: 29 January 2027;
- Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Undergraduate: 31 January 2027; and
- Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Postgraduate: 31 January 2027.
Applicants should apply for admission before the scholarship deadline because their course application and supporting documents must first be assessed.
Who can apply?
Applicants generally need to:
- hold an offer for an eligible University of Dundee course;
- be classified as international fee-paying students;
- study full-time and on campus;
- begin their programmes in September 2026 or January 2027;
- meet the admission requirements for their selected programmes; and
- satisfy the conditions of the particular scholarship.
Undergraduate Medicine and Dentistry programmes are excluded from the two main awards. Postgraduate research degrees such as PhD and MRes programmes are not eligible for the Vice-Chancellor’s Africa Scholarship.
